Sizing
We have found that the masks are very true to size and we offer 6 sizes.. In general, women fit mostly medium and then next popular is small. For men we see mostly large and 20% XL or medium 20%. Our manufacturer makes very high end outdoor / ski wear and is obsessed with quality, fit, and performance. The articulated design has a two piece construction that fits to the natural contour of your face.
What is the activated Carbon mid Layer?
Activated carbon is the premiere material for both air and water filtration. The pore structure creates enormous surface area to attract and capture particulate. The pores can be cleaned out with a simple wash and dry cycle using gentle settings. This does not have to be replaced during the life of the product
What is the value of not being able to blow out a candle?
This simple test was designed to ferret out non conforming KN 95 masks that were flooding in for Health care workers. Why is the shell Liquid repellent?
By keeping the shell of the mask dry the breathability is increased and it prevents any liquid from the outside to wick into the inside. The repellent treatment also provides stain resistance and lasts through launderings. Many cotton masks absorb moisture which restricts breathability and soaks any materials from the outside into the interior. Our back ground in high performance textiles provides smart solutions for all day comfort.
How do I wash the mask?
The mask should be washed in a normal cycle with no softners and normal drying with no dryer sheets. Like all performance fabrics softners and dryer sheets impede the 100% performance of your textiles. When dry you can put it back on and let the stretch outershell reform to your face. You may also hand wash and then dry it in a dryer or the sun. There will be slight shrinkage.
How does it compare to the N95 or K95 masks?
Our mask is not designed for one time use or for medical personnel. The CDC has asked everyone to wear a cloth mask. Per their website: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/cloth-face-cover.html
The cloth face coverings recommended are not surgical masks or N-95 respirators. Those are critical supplies that must continue to be reserved for healthcare workers and other medical first responders, as recommended by current CDC guidance.
How Breathable are the masks?
The masks are comfortable and provide breathability through the different layers. However any layers of material on your face will be less breathable and warmer than with nothing. We believe our mask create the right amount of protection and breathability with Smart materials.
Does the filter need to be replaced?
No the inner layer of our product has printed activated carbon that will not wash or wear out and does not need to be replaced.
Is there a Cost advantage versus disposable masks?
Yes as the mask last over 50 launderings that turns out to be 30 cents per use. Also reusable masks are more environmentally friendly as single use products burden our waste management.
